Postnatal Peer Support Groups

Peer support offers a safe non-judgemental place for parents to talk about their experiences.  Just knowing you are not alone on this journey can provide comfort and hope at a difficult time.

Experiencing mental ill-health in pregnancy and parenthood can be lonely and isolating. Many parents find it difficult to recognise and talk about. They fear judgement from others and may not fully understand the illness or know how to express what they feel or need. Speaking to and listening to how other parents have coped going through similar experiences, and how they manage their thoughts and feelings can really aid recovery.

The following are organisations that provide peer support either through face-to-face meetings, online meetings, discussions and chats, telephone support or counselling.

AWARE is currently supporting the WRDA in the establishment and setting up of 8 perinatal support groups around Northern Ireland.  The groups are operating in the following areas...

AWARE is the depression charity for Northern Ireland and the only charity working exclusively for those with depression and bipolar disorder.
