Ten of the best young singers from North Belfast will go head-to-head next weekend in a brand new singing competition for a local mental health charity.
Singing Star North Belfast pits young solo talent from schools across the North of the city against each other in an X-Factor style battle.
Proceeds from the event, which takes place at The Mac in St Anne’s Square next Friday night (February 28), go towards Aware Defeat Depression.
Students from Edmund Rice College, St Patrick’s Bearnageeha, Girls Model, Boys Model, St Malachy’s College, Mercy College and Hazelwood Integrated College are taking part in the event.
The exciting panel of celebrity judges includes North Belfast-born opera singer Marcella Walsh, artist development manager Davy Matchett and Glengormley Paralympic Gold Medallist Michael McKillop.
All the schools taking part have recently received Aware Defeat Depression’s Mood Matters for Young People programme. The programme is designed to help young people develop skills to look after their own mental health and recognise mental ill health in others.
Tickets are still available for the event.
Singing Star North Belfast tales place in The Mac (Downstairs at the Mac) next Friday night (February 28). Tickets are £10 (£8 for under 18s) and are available from The Mac box office 02890 23 5053 http://themaclive.com/.
