Mental Health Awareness Week Is About Action
Mental Health Awareness Week is an opportunity to move beyond conversation and focus on meaningful action.
For 30 years, AWARE NI has been taking action to support people living with depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder across Northern Ireland. From free mental health support groups and mental health education to community events and opportunities to get involved, we believe that small actions can make a big difference.
This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re highlighting some of the ways you can access support, learn more and take action for mental health.
Action Through Support
If you need mental health support, AWARE NI is here to help.
We offer free peer support groups across Northern Ireland, providing a safe and welcoming space for people to share experiences and connect with others who understand.
Our support groups are:
- Free to attend
- Available online and in person
- Open with no waiting lists
- Accessible with no referral required
With 24 local support groups across Northern Ireland, mental health help is available when you need it most.
Action Through Shared Experiences

This year, we are proud to present Look at Me Now… a special exhibition celebrating 30 years of AWARE NI.
Hosted at the Golden Thread Gallery from 25–27 June 2026, the exhibition will feature 30 lived experience testimonials that share stories of hope, resilience and recovery.
The exhibition is free and open to the public, offering an opportunity to reflect on the power of shared experiences and the importance of speaking openly about mental health.
Action Through Education
Understanding mental health is one of the most effective ways to create supportive environments.
On 13 May, from 11am to 12pm, we are hosting a free online webinar focused on mental health in the workplace.
The session will provide practical insights into supporting wellbeing at work and is open to anyone interested in learning more.

Action Through Recognition

Schools, workplaces and community groups across Northern Ireland are making a real difference to mental health.
Through our Investors in Mental Health (IMH) Awards, we recognise organisations that are creating positive mental health cultures.
Applications are open now until June 15th.
Whether you are part of a school, business or community organisation, this is an opportunity to gain recognition for your commitment to mental health and wellbeing.
Any questions please contact communications@aware-ni.org and one of our team members will be happy to assist!
Action Through Small Steps
There are many simple ways to support mental health this week - or any other week as mental health is not a conversation that stops at the end of Mental Health Awareness Week.
You could:
- Volunteer at one of our support groups
- Share our services with someone who may benefit
- Fundraise for AWARE NI by taking part in Giant Steps
- Attend one of our events
- Encourage your organisation to prioritise mental health
Every action, no matter how small, helps us continue our work across Northern Ireland.
Mental Health Awareness Week is about action.
Whether you reach out for support, learn something new, share your story or help raise awareness, your actions can make a meaningful difference.
For 30 years, AWARE NI has been supporting people and communities across Northern Ireland. Together, we can continue overcoming depression and changing lives.
