Walk the Camino for AWARE

Date: 22 – 29 September 2018 Distance: 111km Duration: 7 days Route: Along the French Way – Sarria to Santiago

About The Route

The French Way or Camino Francés (#caminofrances) is the most famous of all the Camino de Santiago routes, featuring in many documentaries, books and movies such as ‘The Way’.

The last section of the French Way from Sarria to Santiago is also the most social part of the route, where you will meet many fellow trekkers and find the real spirit and camaraderie of the Camino!

Your Support

AWARE relies on the funds generously raised through campaigns such as the Camino walk to deliver our free of charge support, education and information services. Your support can help fund services offered by AWARE which provide a safe space where even the most difficult and upsetting thoughts and feelings associated with depression or bipolar disorder can be acknowledged and shared. Our education programmes focus on actions that can improve their situation and alleviate some of their symptoms.

Michael Nicholson decided to trek part of the Camino as a post-retirement challenge: "The Camino provided time to reflect on my own life and its direction at a time of change. The variety of age groups and backgrounds of my fellow pilgrims really made the experience. Everyone has their own reasons for doing the Camino - some spiritual, some in memory of someone they have lost.....others to enjoy nature and some who just enjoyed a good walk with or without the company of others. I was inspired along the way by the beautiful villages and architecture, diverse landscapes and plant life. I enjoyed meeting people from every continent and hearing their stories. The Camino will always stay with you!"
